 FRIDAY
Open house at Silver River Center for Chair Caning 10-6. Registration at the FolkArt Center Auditorium 11-4. BOARD MEMBERS ONLY Guild Dinner Friday evening.
 
 

Saturday July 30  

 

9:30-10:00         Registration Open

 

10:00-10:15       Welcome

 

10:15-12:00       Musical Chairs Workshop: Rotate through 6 weaving stations

                            1) Staining workshop with Caryl DeFrancesco

                            2) Splicing different materials together with Jill Woods

                            3) Weaving with Belts & Sue Muldoon

                            4) Fine tuning laced caning (Xs!) with Dick Knotts

                            5) Corn shuck weaving with David Russell

                            6) Danish cord weaving with Emily Emza Uphill

 

12:00-12:30       Boxed lunch  . 

12:30-1:30         Lunch continues during Annual Meeting

 

1:30-2:00           Keynote Speaker Walter Turpening "Pulling it Together"

                             Lecture on Weaving with braided cotton cord in graded colors

2:00-3:00           Walter Turpening "Pulling it Together " Demonstration

 

3:00-3:30           Chair Caner's Yoga with Lillah Schwartz

 

3:30-5:00          Speed Seminars:                           

            1) 3:30-4:00 How to post correctly on Facebook with Sue Muldoon

           2) 4:00-4:30 Business tips by Emily Emza Uphill

            3) 4:30-5:00 Tips, Tools, & Tricks

 

5:00-5:45           Break: Converse with Speed Seminar Participants, Practice skills from the morning sessions, tour the Folk Art Center.

 

5:45-7:00           Buffet BBQ

 

7:00-7:30           Chair Nerd Jeopardy

 

7:30-8:30          Raffle/Socialize/Set up for Sunday's SeatWeaving Roadshow

 

 

 

Sunday July 31

 

10:00-10:30 Conclusion

 

10:30-11:15 Open Weaving Practice.  Material Swap. Group project with Walter Turpening's braided cotton cords on a Woody's Chair Shop footstool.

 

11:15-12:00 Lunch & prep for SeatWeaving Roadshow

 

12:00-4:00 The SeatWeaving Road Show....Membership welcomes the Folk Art Center Visitors to the Auditorium and demonstrate that chair caning is a thriving art!

 

Don't feel like volunteering? Practice basic skills & learn new tricks that will speed up/simplify your weaving.


Ways you can help: Encourage visitors to step up and try it out. Talk with visitors about their chairs. Engage the public or ask pertinent questions of members to enliven conversation. Share your struggles and successes in your practice.

 

12pm-4pm The SeatWeaving Roadshow Hands-on Weaving Station Area

            Visitors and non-members are welcome to participate

Station 3    Splint Weaving

Station 4    Rush weaving

12pm-4pm The SeatWeaving Roadshow Member Demonstration Area

            Visitors and non-members may watch. Weaving is for members only to

            practice skills learned on Saturday.

 

Open Weaving practice & Demonstration of Advanced Techniques

Cattail Rush Weaving with Cathryn Peters

Continue weaving with belts, splicing different materials, and corn shucks.

Continue weaving with Walter Turpening's braided cotton cords on The SeatWeavers' Guild Group Project.
