Thanks, that is what I was afraid of. The old glue is water soluble, that is probably why the cane slipped out after we wet that area down again, i think I will have to get a new set of materials next week and start over. O boy, lesson learned the hard way. Don’t let husband mess with my projects until absolutely done ;-)

Yes, I did, used the glue recommended by the cane supplier (made from fish guts, that is all I know). we had initially waited, but when we fixed the spline, we had wetted it down again and that evening my husband simply did not think about the fix. What are the chances that if I remove it again, it would fit back into the same chair? It was not a small piece, so would hate to have to buy it again.
