@tbrown4006 The back always takes longer because you have to do the herringbone pattern on both sides. This one is complicated even further by the extra rails. I’ve done a lot of living and learning replacing chair seats. 😉

Hopefully , you charged more than normal for the back. I would imagine that’s going to take quite a bit longer since you can’t wrap around the outside, but will have to insert your warp and weavers between the rails. Show us pictures along the way. 😊

I knew that it was not possible to have been a seat woven onto that frame! She really likes rush, so I will explain the options to her. Thanks so much. 😊

@Administrator I totally understand. I did 8 chairs in pre-twisted seagrass rush for a customer who insisted on keeping them on her porch all year long - in Central Texas heat and weather! It was the second time they were being replaced, but she would not put them inside when she was out of state for most of the year (this was her vacation home.) I applied a couple of coats of linseed oil hoping that they would not turn black like the last set. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Administrator It is #5 round reed and 6mm binder cane. They plan to have them outside. 😕 My customer is going to put the finish on. I was thinking of suggesting that he use spar varnish - the type that is used on boats.

I have used short pieces of spline to hold the webbing in place as I work. Once you have used your wedge to tap into place, the spline holds it nicely and is easy I remove when you’re done.
